Larne Clubman Autotest (26/08/20) Report

An event to blow off the cobwebs.

Larne Motor Club hosted a closed autotest with very limited entry of 17 drivers due to current Covid restrictions. Held in Raloo the plan was for two tests ran three times each but due to lack of daylight it was confined to one test four times.

Two types of test were available, one all forwards which was popular with the likes of MX-5's and the other test included reversing. Drivers had the choice when entering the event which they preferred, forwards or those with reversing.

Six drivers opted for the reversing style with a mix of a Lightweight Mini, MX-5's and a Ford Puma.

Results

Chris Patterson led the pack in the all forwards tests all night totalling 349.9s in his VW Buggy just 5.6s ahead of second place Sam Lyle in the Vauxhall Nova. The ever entertaining Darren Fleck in his BMW 318ti rounded off the top three 3.7s behind Sam.

Andrew Earney in the Lightweight Mini Saloon topped the six drivers competing in the reversing tests with a total of 286.6s. Second in the group was Gareth Dillion on 313.0s and third Mark Francis on 317.8s both driving MX-5's.

Stopastride Live (SAL) Timing System

On the night we tested our new timing system. Due to Covid restrictions the passing of documents between drivers should be limited therefore an electronic system has been developed. The system can be used for entering times onto a tablet which automatically updates our website in real time meaning drivers can access at any time to see how they are getting on.

More details on the system and how clubs can avail of it will be published in the coming months after further development and testing has been carried out.

Our timing website can be visited at www.stopastride.live
